Pound Brief

This is probably one of my favourite briefs so far, genius idea.
In this brief, we were told to buy something from a pound shop, and increase it's value.

We chose lots of pointless and random things with a dream of making something beautiful:

  • Silicon cupcake molds
  • Cardboard birdhouse
  • 12 BBQ skewers
  • Ritz crackers
  • Jigsaw building blocks
We ended up using the building blocks... you got 500 in a bag for a quid, and we managed to increase their value £499... and increase the moral value.  Here's how:

Gold Challenge Brick Donation

  1. People receive a coloured brick in the post with information on what the campaign's about. (You donate a pound, and your brick goes into a sculpture of the Olympic logo at the 2012 Olympics.  Your name also gets put into a plaque on display for all to see, you become part of the Olympic games.  You can also choose the charity you prefer from a list, and there are league tables of which charity is getting the most donations, encouraging competitive spirit... all in the spirit of the games.)
  2. They choose whether to donate by post, internet or go to the stall next to the games.  All inclusive.
  3. The sculpture is on display throughout the games, so foreign visitors, who are likely to have more money, can be added to the sculpture, and the plaque. More money for charities.
  4. Once the games are over, the sculpture is dismantled and the bricks are donated to children's hospices.
