Postcards I created as part of a direct mail piece for university. The idea was to provide a better working relationship between road sweeper's and their bosses. These post cards would be delivered in a 'return to sender' parcel, along with the gifts stated in the notes, as a push in the right direction.
His name is Danny Latham-Symes, and he works for Elvis Communications in London.
He went to Bucks, graduated in 2008. So I went to say hi, to see what he owes to Bucks.
He was a nice enough bloke, we had a good chat about our tutors, the fact that he has put our tutors of facebook for life, and his hoax puma. Got some good advice about the industry... and a refreshment on my desire to work in advertising. God that place was cool, and all the people were dead friendly.
Interested to see what an above the line agency works like though.
You can't stop the youth of today getting shitwrecked.
They love it too much.
At least try make them act responsibly.
'Cause drink fucks everything. You know what else fucks stuff? Rabbits.
So we did some videos on that, but now I'm a bit embarrassed to show it, 'cause it's terrible.
This was one another group did, that is, quite frankly, epic, and should be seen by all.
This is probably one of my favourite briefs so far, genius idea.
In this brief, we were told to buy something from a pound shop, and increase it's value.
We chose lots of pointless and random things with a dream of making something beautiful:
Silicon cupcake molds
Cardboard birdhouse
12 BBQ skewers
Ritz crackers
Jigsaw building blocks
We ended up using the building blocks... you got 500 in a bag for a quid, and we managed to increase their value £499... and increase the moral value. Here's how:
Gold Challenge Brick Donation
People receive a coloured brick in the post with information on what the campaign's about. (You donate a pound, and your brick goes into a sculpture of the Olympic logo at the 2012 Olympics. Your name also gets put into a plaque on display for all to see, you become part of the Olympic games. You can also choose the charity you prefer from a list, and there are league tables of which charity is getting the most donations, encouraging competitive spirit... all in the spirit of the games.)
They choose whether to donate by post, internet or go to the stall next to the games. All inclusive.
The sculpture is on display throughout the games, so foreign visitors, who are likely to have more money, can be added to the sculpture, and the plaque. More money for charities.
Once the games are over, the sculpture is dismantled and the bricks are donated to children's hospices.
Ok, this one's going to be brief.. and essentially just photos of the wallpaper and idea development, I threw out my final piece by accident. Oops. The rest is online, in the form of emails and a dating website.
The idea of this was to create a person, out of variously sourced inspiration, with a starting point of a piece of music... I was given 'Tous le Garcons et les Filles' by Francoise Hardy.
It's French.
If you hadn't figured that out already... get off my blog.
This is the work I did:
Having to create her voice, experiences, personality... it was far more difficult than I expected.
There was more than this, but these were my favourite points. Just little pointers that are so insignificant but can say so much about a person.
Unfortunately, no final piece to show, but they were a letter from her biological mother that she recieved when she was 17, that turned her whole life around, her email inbox containing contact from an old friend that knew her pre-life changing event, and a dating website profile.
This bit of madness was the first time we actually used our wallpapers.
The idea of the wallpaper is that they don't want us to 'be confined to pages', which I thought was complete pretentious shit when I first heard it, but you know what, it didn't half work...
So, evidently, the word I was presented with was 'Force'.
From 'force', I went off and found inspiration from the depths of my own knowledge and understanding, watching documentaries, and questioning my own thought process.
Through a series of dark and intriguing thought patterns and paths, I ended up questioning the moral awareness of children, and when they become aware of what they really want...
After everything, my main question that I came up with was, when do we give up on the dreams we have as children? When do we become aware of the brutal reality that not everyone can do what they want to do? And who actually achieves their dreams?
I went into London and asked the people that I though were the least likely to have done this...the businessmen.
Bit of a doodle from the train there.
Not gonna lie, I hate this final piece with a passion. The video is badly edited, and I rushed it. Going to redo it as a soundbite at a later date.
